Tara Jensen, author of Flour Power and A Baker’s Year, doesn’t settle for sandwich bread from the supermarket and neither should you. In this 2-hour, live stream class, Jensen will introduce you to the world of natural leaving (sourdough) and showcase the techniques she applies to bread dough as she walks you step by step through a hearty sandwich bread. Made with whole grain and white flour, this is the definitive bread for peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, buttery morning toast or griddled cheese. Jensen bakes a double batch of this creamy, slightly tangy, bread every weekend for her family and now you can too!

This workshop is perfect for sourdough newbies and/or if you’ve been struggling with your starter’s performance. Jensen will highlight how to: care for your starter when it’s not in use, bolster it for baking lofty and use it to create a leaven. Part principles, part hands on, you’ll walk away with a better understanding of how temperature and hydration (the amount of water) effect the rise, taste, and activity of your starter and all of Jensen’s tips and tricks for boldly baked, well risen, delicious bread. Get your butter knife ready!

How to Participate

This class is “cooking show” style, Jensen will have all parts of the process ready to go. If you’d like to bake along, then you’ll need to be prepared up to the step you’d like to do together. You can always simply watch and ask questions. You will receive a recording the following day which can be downloaded for endless future viewing.
